King and Queen of St. John's Mardi Gras Party, 1960 Similar to 2009.30.0538; this one does not show Carl Flournoy. Per newspaper clipping affixed to back of photo: "King and Queen of the Mardi Gras. Carl Flournoy, left, general chairman of the YMI's annual Mardi Gras Ball and Carnival congratulates the king, Robert Ricci and Fr. Arthur Adamski, right, pastor of St. John's, congratulates the queen, Kathy McCaffrey. The King and Queen were crowned at the Mardi Gras Saturday night at the Villa Chanticler. They obtained their titles by selling the most tickets to the event. Winners of the costume prizes were Mrs. Ellen Gromo and Mrs. Angelina Foppiano, dressed as Indians, $50 bond; Mr. & Mrs. Shannon Thornton, in Gay Nineties costumes; $25 bond; Mrs. & Mrs. Jerry Mangono, Chinese Couple, $10 cash award. Among the judges were Don Moore, Joe Lenci and Howard Maloney. In charge of the crowning ceremonies and master of ceremonies was Ted Snyder." Published in Healdsburg Tribune, March 3, 1960 |
