First Battalion, Korea, recipients of Operation Christmas packages, December 1956 Per newspaper article affixed to back of photo: "'Operation Christmas': Healdsburg's Adopted 1st Battalion, now the 5th Battalion, sent the community this photograph from Korea. It was dated December 24, 1951, and for all the smiling faces, the cheery caption and the tinsel "Merry Christmas," few eyes remained dry that looked at it, few hearts turned away from it without a prayer for these men. The caption on the photograph, taken by PFC Herman B. Keys, read: "Members of all the companies of the 1st BN, 7th Inf Regt, 3rd Inf Div, are represented as they receive gifts from the city of Healdsburg, Cal, as part of that city's "Operation Xmas." Date on back of photo, handwritten, is December 20, 1956 but caption reads December 24, 1951 and back of photo is stamped with 24 Dec 1951. Set of 15 photographs found in collection. Subject is Smitty Robinson's Adopted First Battalion. Most of the photos appeared in the Healdsburg Tribune during the 1950s. Newspaper clipping for 2014.02.016 is pasted to he back of 2014.02.013.
