"Russian River supplies raw materials for huge Basalt Plant operations here", August 1965 Newspaper article affixed to rear of photo: "Walking the Drag Line - 'Huge' doesn't adequately describe the 600-ton drag line which extracts sand and gravel from the river bed for Basalt's Healdsburg plant. Pontoons on the side are lowered allowing the machine to 'walk' to a new location when it is necessary to move. It is taken to high ground and tied down during the winter months of high water." |
