Memorial Beach Dam after heavy rainfall, view of lowered water level above dam, October 1957 Per newspaper article affixed to rear of photo 2005.01.428a: "Memorial Dam: The photo was taken last Thursday afternoon at Healdsburg's Memorial Dam and shows the amount of water flowing over the dam following the heavy rainfall last week. On Friday, work was resumed in placing rock along the downstream side and yesterday work on removing portions of the dam was continued. Spokesman for Young and Engelke Co., Healdsburg contractor who were awarded the $34,430 contract for lowering the panels and placing a blanket of large rocks on the downstream side where the undercurrent is causing washing, said that only a small amount of damage was done to the dam by the heavy water flow and that it was nothing serious. It is estimated that within two weeks, if the good weather continues, the work of lowering the dam and placing the rock blanket will be completed. Minor repairs to the dam can be completed at a later date." See also similar photos 2005.01.425 though 2005.01.427, scanned and 2005.01.428b, not scanned |
