Healdsburg Rotary Club International Committee, 1954 Per newspaper article affixed to rear of similar photo 2008.01.177: "International Goodwill: Smith Robinson, left, International Service committee Chairman for the Rotary Club, with his special guests, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burg of 524A Fitch, who are natives of Germany. The Burgs were presented with a handcarved clock from the Black Forest of Germany at Monday night's Rotary Club meeting, the second of a series of gifts of foreign manufacture that are being presented to local residents who were born or lived in foreign countries. The program was inaugurated to foster international understanding, goodwill, and peace. Burg told the Rotary Club members that he, when he was in Germany, used to hand carve clocks such as was presented to him. He is a well-known local cabinet and furniture maker. K. G. Herr Uhrenfabrik, Guetenbach, Schwarzwald, Germany, sent the gift to the Healdsburg Rotary Club. Ran Newman, vice-president of the Santa Rosa Junior College, was guest speaker Monday night. Charles Weston was program chairman." |
