Russian River below Memorial beach after January flood, 1958 Per newspaper article affixed to rear of photo: Minor Flooding - The storm which swept Healdsburg and Sonoma county over the weekend caused only minor and temporary flood conditions in some local areas. Rain which began about mid-afternoon Saturday caused some temporary flooding about nightfall in Healdsburg, at the underpass and in Alexander Valley. The Healdsburg Fire Department gauge showed that 1.94 inches of rain fell here from 6:00 p.m. Saturday to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. A large part of this precipitation fell between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Saturday, however, briefly flooding some city streets, the underpass on Highway 101 and by Sunday morning swelling Russian river over its banks in some places in Alexander Valley, including the Alexander Valley road bridge. In five days of rain out of the last seven, 4.89 inches fell in the local area, to bring the total for the season to 27.99 inches.
