Taken from Tribune Newspaper Clip: Solemn ceremonies at Oak Mound Cemetery on Monday morning symbolized the nation's tribute to its war dead. The services were held under the auspices of the 1960 Memorial Day Committee. Watson McFadden , 5th District American Legion Commander, was the main speaker and he urged a renewed determination to work in behalf of peace. Janice Nardi, 8th grade student at St. John's Parochial School, recited her prize winning essay on "What Makes A Good Citizen". Master of ceremonies was Roy Roberts, commander of the American Legion Post 111, and the invocation was offered by Orel Thuesson, Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Others offering words on the theme of peace were Dave Becraft, commander of the VFW Post 4394 and Mrs. Marvina Hughes, president of the American War Mothers, Chapter 65 and Post 111 chaplain Henry Larrieu. Wreaths of flowers were placed on the tomb of the unknown soldier by the American Legion and VFW Sergeants of the Guard and white carnations were laid on the tomb by American War Mothers. The ceremonies ended with the traditional gun salute and the playing of taps. A group of songs was played by the Healdsburg Junior High School Band, conducted by John Terry.
