Rescue of man trapped until overturned raft, five photos related, one of which appeared in the PD, 1967 Per newspaper article held with photos: "Healdsburg Heroics. Rescue of Santa Rosa man trapped under overturned life-raft at foundation of Healdsburg recreation dam shown in top photo [not included in these five photos] as Paul Pugh tries to toss a line to Todd Morrison, San Francisco, and Paga Naugle, Albany. They and Joe Zerboni tried to shoot the rapids at the beach but the raft flipped and was trapped in the backwater with Mr. Zerboni beneath it. Disaster was averted when Healdsburg fireman Rodney Keck leaped into the white water with his life line around his waist and fought his way to raft. In bottom photo [2009.24.015] Mr. Keck (in water, near far right) is helped after he pulled Mr. Zerboni safe and sound from beneath the raft., where he survived by breathing the bubble of trapped air. Mr. Zerboni was credited earlier this year with saving the life of a fisherman at almost the same location." Published in Santa Rosa Press Democrat, April 1967. Paperwork held with photo also shows photocopy of article published May 1, 1967 in PD of Rodney Keck, fireman, receiving award for helping in rescue (see 2009.24.018) |
