VFW provides new flags in honor of Memorial Day, 1960 Per newspaper clipping affixed to back of photo: "New Flags on the Fourth. Through the efforts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Past 4394, Dave Becraft, commander, 41 new 50-star flags were flown from the parking meter standards by Healdsburg business firms on July 4. The VFW received the new flags on Friday and early Monday morning a group of VFW members raised flags in front of the business houses that had subscribed to the flag service. The flags are sold for $15 and for an additional $16 the VFW will raise and lower the flags on recognized 16 flag holidays, store them and clean them. Funds from this project will go to the scholarship fund and for youth activities. The next day the flags will be flown will be august 14, V. J. Day. Any business firm interested in the VFW's service may contact Dave Becraft. Becraft expressed his appreciation to those firms who did cooperate and to the volunteers who raised and lowered the flags." Published in Healdsburg Tribune. July 7, 1960 |
